A missed period is often the first sign of pregnancy that a girl will notice. This is usually followed by nausea and vomiting, which is called morning sickness. Other signs and symptoms can include breast tenderness and enlargement, fatigue, an increased sense of smell, frequent urination, increased hunger and food cravings. You may experience other symptoms as well and in some instances none at all. If you think you might be pregnant, it is important for your health and that of your baby to seek assistance as soon as possible. Contact us right away. We can help.
During pregnancy your body will need approximately 300 additional calories a day from protein, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Sweets, junk foods or fatty foods should be limited. Make sure you take a daily prenatal vitamin and eat healthy foods. This should supply the important vitamins and minerals you will need during your pregnancy. Speak to your doctor about any specific dietary requirements or restrictions.
Pregnancy can be a stressful time and being a teen or a woman in your early twenties can make this time even more stressful. Stress can cause headaches, digestive issues (unrelated to morning sickness), problems with sleeping, anxiety and depression among other issues. Stress during pregnancy can cause blood pressure problems, low birth weight and even preterm birth. You will want to practice methods to reduce your stress such as meditation, breathing exercises, exercising and if you need it, therapy and counselling.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
